Why you should pay for your music
A must-read open letter to a twenty-something NPR intern with a huge collection of unpurchased music…
Maybe it’s a generational thing - I grew up paying for music. I expect to pay for music. If you wanted free music, you waited until the radio played the song you want and you recorded it with you tape deck (or you followed a similarly awkward procedure to copy music from the library). It was usually easier to just buy the album, or the tape single. Because I expect to pay for music, I own a sizable CD collection.
If you grew up grabbing your music for free off the internet, actually buying a CD apparently feels like punishment.
